A hip pointer has limited King junior Avonte Maddox lately, but he says he'll be back at full strength soon.
That is bad news for King opponents, as Maddox's 4.38 speed has made him a deadly threat this season. Despite it being his first season at the varsity level (he played PAL until this year), he has stepped in and contributed right away.
"It's been good. It's my first year playing high school football, but I like the team. It's bigger. It's a lot bigger and it's faster, but I adjusted well."
Maddox says he is receiving mail from Indiana and Indiana State currently, and has been to a couple of college games.
"I've been to Michigan State versus Ohio State, Indiana versus Ball State and that was it. The Michigan State game was an exciting atmosphere, like all the kids there. It was live. It was a big game."
The Indiana game was Maddox's first taste of a college atmosphere, and he saw a contest that went down to the wire.
"It was my first college game. It was good. They took us on the field, let us be down there during pregame. They took us to the locker room. Even though they lost, it was a close game and they were coming back."
Maddox says both staffs had the same message for him.
"They told me to keep up the hard work and keep playing."
