It's been my pleasure to have had the opportunity to watch some great running back prospects already this season like Alex Collins (South Plantation), Derrick Henry (Yulee), Kelvin Taylor (Glades Day), Joseph Yearby (Miami Central), Dalvin Cook (Miami Central), and Greg Bryant (Delray Beach American Heritage). These are all elite runners.
Maybe Clyde Newton isn't as big as Henry, as fast as Cook, as explosive as Collins, as powerful as Bryant, etc. but he does do a lot of things very well. Last Friday was the second time I have seen him in action. He played against a very good South Fort Myers team and earlier this year I saw him against Venice. In those two games he combined for over 400 yards rushing on 57 carries.
Against South Fort Myers he had 215 yards and a touchdown on 30 carries and was the star of the game. Once again he proved to be their workhorse. Simply put this kid had an awesome night. He ran with power. He ran with quickness. This is one cut runner that has deceptive speed. Newton has balance and a terrific spin move. On Friday, he was like the Energizer bunny, who keeps going and going and going.
Newton just committed to Indiana and looks like a great find for the Hoosiers. He has to be one of the most underrated kids in the state.
Below are some highlights from Friday's game.
