Barker Ready to Visit Irish

With his junior season just completed, 2014 quarterback Drew Barker is looking to get in a couple of game day visits. First stop will be Notre Dame when the Irish take on Wake Forest.

Drew Barker has already picked up eight scholarship offers including three from Big 10 schools and one from the SEC (South Carolina). The newest program to show interest is Notre Dame.

Barker, a 6-foot-4, 205-pound quarterback from Hebron (KY) Conner High School is like most prospects in his excitement to visit with the Irish.

"I'm really excited," said Barker. "It's one of those trips any college football fan wants to take and just to go up there as a recruit knowing that I could possibly play there is an awesome feeling.

"I'm excited to check out the atmosphere and the fans and meet with all the coaches and get to know them. I feel it should be a great trip."

One of the reasons Barker is able to make the trek to South Bend is his team's loss in the playoffs.

"It was a good season," said Barker. "We actually just finished losing in the second round of the playoffs to Franklin (KY) County 62-59. So now it's time to get back to work this off season."

Barker feels his junior campaign may have opened up a few eyes.

"I rushed for 1,422 yards and 18 touchdowns while passing for 2,067 yards, 22 touchdowns with only seven interceptions.

"I feel I've improved greatly and made great strides in my passing game as that was one of my main focuses going into the season. I came out this year and feel like I put it all together. My rushing game has always been there just being an athlete. But the passing game is something I worked really hard on this off season learning more about reading coverage and reading defenses with my coach. I feel now that I can audible at the line a lot easier than in the past."

With the Irish just starting to show interest Barker is ready visit South Bend with an open mind.

"I've spoke with recruiting coordinator coach (Tony) Alford," said Barker. "He said he's going to hook me up with their quarterbacks coach. I just started getting interest from them a couple of weeks ago and they invited me up to a game. So I'm just going up there and see how everything is and go from there."

IrishEyes.com will check back with Barker following his game day visit with the Irish.
