Fischer chooses Marquette

Former Indiana center Luke Fischer will transfer to Marquette, he announced Sunday.

Former Indiana center Luke Fischer, who announced last Monday that he would seek a transfer after only one semester, will continue his college basketball career at Marquette. Fischer announced the news Sunday morning on his Twitter account.

Fischer, a 6-foot-11 freshman, had played better of late for the Hoosiers, but he was never completely healthy. He didn't feel Indiana ultimately was the right fit for him, and chose a school in Marquette that is in his home state of Wisconsin.

Fischer will enroll in the second semester, meaning he will be eligible to play again starting in the second semester next year. So virtually, he will be eligible for Marquette's Big East conference season.

Fischer had heard from close to 40 schools in the last week, according to sources, including Butler, a Big East foe of Marquette's. But he chose to stay close to home, and no one can really blame him for that. It seems like a pretty good fit for Buzz Williams.

For Indiana, this loss obviously hurts, as we've written about several times now. The Hoosiers are thin up front, and if Noah Vonleh were to leave for the NBA after this season, they would be incredibly thin on the front line.
