There are still three days of conference tournament action to be contested, but as teams fall on and off the NCAA Tournament bubble, the conversations begin for the NIT, too.
Indiana is firmly in those conversations.
The question is will Indiana's loss to Illinois on Thursday cost the Hoosiers a first round home game in the NIT?
One of the sites that handles NIT projections is Bracket Matrix. Prior to the IU-Illinois, the site had Indiana projected as a No. 4 seed in the NIT and hosting LSU in the first round of the tournament.
After Thursday's 64-54 loss to the Illini, however, Indiana is now listed as a No. 6 seed and would go on the road to face No. 3 Wisconsin-Green Bay in the first round. The other three seeds that could be potential opponents are Illinois, Clemson and Georgetown.
Another site is NYC Buckets. That site was last updated on Thursday prior to the IU-Illinois game and at that point Indiana was still a No. 4 seed. On that site, the projected first round matchup at Assemlby Hall had the Hoosiers facing Georgia.
Chances are we'll find out when and if Indiana plays in the NIT sometime Sunday evening around 9 or 10 p.m.
First round NIT games will be contested on March 18 and 19, so Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.
