Bloomington, Ind. – One of the Hoosiers’ top recruiting targets in the 2008 class is headed to Bloomington.
Tandon Doss
, a 6-3, 190-pound wide receiver from Ben Davis H.S. in Indianapolis has verbally committed to play for the Hoosiers. He’s the third member of the IU’s 2008 class, joining Ft. Wayne wide receiver
Marquelo Suel
and Hamilton Southeastern H.S. defensive tackle
Nick Sliger
.
“They’re close, and I really like all the coaches there,” Doss said. “They are all really cool.”
Doss was one of the Hoosiers’ most coveted in-state recruits. He caught 29 passes for 448 yards and three touchdowns as a junior and added another 241 yards rushing on 23 carries as well. He’s considered one of the top 10 recruits in the state this season.
He’s also one of three Ben Davis H.S. standouts that the IU staff is hoping to lure to Bloomington. Most notable is quarterback
MarQueis Gray
, one of the top quarterback recruits in the Midwest region. In addition, the Hoosiers have also offered athlete
Lavarus Williams
as well.
Doss is the first of the trio to commit, and he said they’ve talked about the idea of playing together in college.
“Marqueis is my quarterback, so we’ve put in that time and developed that friendship,” Doss said. “Lavarus and I have played together my whole life, so there’s a friendship there.”
A big part of Doss’ decision to commit was Assistant Coach Billy Lynch, IU’s primary in-state recruiter who has helped the Hoosiers once again contend for the top in-state players the last several years.
“Coach Lynch is wild,” Doss said. “He reminds me of a coach from Ben Davis. He’s very energetic, and an all-around good person.”
