Starr Earns Big Ten Honor

Bloomington, Ind. – Austin Starr was tabbed as the Big Ten’s Special Teams Player of the Week after his four field goal effort in IU’s 40-20 win over Minnesota.

The Hoosiers’ junior kicker extended his consecutive field goal made streak to nine by converting attempts from 47, 43, 33 and 25 yards against the Gophers. If he makes his next field goal attempt he’ll equal Doug Smith’s school record of 10 straight field goal, a mark established during the 1981-82 seasons.

Starr is now 12-of-13 on field goals this season and his 12 field goals ranks fourth nationally. He’s also 24-of-28 on field goals during his career, which easily makes him the most accurate field goal kicker in IU history.

This marks the first time Starr has been honored by the Big Ten. The last time an IU player won a Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week award was Oct. 9, 2006, when Marcus Thigpen was recognized for his 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in IU’s come-from-behind 34-32 win at Illinois.
