White Captures Second Straight Big Ten Honor

Bloomington, Ind. – Back-to-back double-doubles helped D.J. White to back-to-back Big Ten weekly honors.

The Hoosiers’ 6-9, 230-pound senior was named the Big Ten Player of the Week Monday, marking the second straight week White has earned the conference’s honor. White led the short-handed Hoosiers to homecourt wins over Tennessee State and Kentucky last week.

In the Hoosiers’ 84-72 win over Tennessee State, White knocked down his first eight shots on his way to a career-high 29 points on 11-of-16 shooting. With Jordan Crawford suspended and Eric Gordon leaving the game in the first half with an injury, White carried the Hoosiers, adding 13 rebounds and four blocks in 36 minutes.

White followed that effort up with a 16-point, 13-rebound performance in the Hoosiers’ surprisingly easy 70-51 win over Kentucky Saturday. Indiana was once playing short-handed, as Gordon was still out due to injury and Armon Bassett was hit with an indefinite team suspension for violating team rules.

White has recorded five straight double-doubles dating back to the Xavier game and has reached double figures in rebounds in six consecutive contests. During his last five games, White is averaging 17.8 points, 12.4 rebounds and 2.6 blocks.
