Bloomington, Ind. – IU officials have received the list of alleged violations made by Kelvin Sampson’s basketball program from the NCAA and is expected to make it public today, the Associated Press reported Wednesday. The violations stem from approximately 100 impermissible phone calls made by Sampson’s staff during the 2006-07 season. The majority of those calls in question exceeded the number permitted by the NCAA to prospective recruits, while a handful were deemed to be in violation of the sanctions that Sampson was saddled with as a result of 577 impermissible phone calls made by his staff when he was the head coach at Oklahoma. As a result of his problems at Oklahoma Sampson was banned from calling recruits or making off-campus visits for one year. IU originally uncovered the issue last summer and made its findings public in October. The university imposed a variety of its own sanctions, including having Sampson forfeit a $500,000 raise due to him for the season. In addition, Assistant Coach Rob Senderoff – who was involved in a majority of the phone calls – was also eventually forced to resign. IU reported its findings to the NCAA and has been waiting on the governing body for a response. Indiana now has until May to respond to the report, and officials are expected to appear in front of the NCAA in June. |
