Duwyce Wilson decided he agreed with IU assistant coach Billy Lynch Thursday.

During the recruiting process, the Hoosiers’ wide receiver coach delivered a consistent message to the Columbus (Ind.) East H.S. standout.

“He always tells me the best in-state players need to stay in-state,” Wilson said. “He really looks at it that way.”

On Thursday, Wilson proved he agreed with that sentiment when he verbally committed to the Hoosiers. The 6-3, 185-pounder is the nation’s 50th-ranked wide receiver nationally and a huge in-state get for the Indiana program.

Wilson caught 48 passes for 961 yards and 12 touchdowns as a junior and is clearly one of the state’s top elite players for the ’09 class. Purdue, Iowa, Wisconsin, Kentucky and Louisville were among the programs that had offered, but he decided to stay closer to home and play for the Hoosiers.

Clearly one of the biggest selling points for IU was Lynch, the Hoosiers’ primary in-state recruiter who developed a relationship early. That paid on Thursday with the huge commitment.

“(Lynch) has made a big impression on me – he’s like a big brother,” Wilson said. “We talk a lot and have developed a really good relationship.”
