With Duwyce Wilson's recent pledge to IU, many have thought teammate Dusty Kiel would commit soon afterwards. The Columbus East quarterback said two programs have emerged as the favorites, but he's still undecded about where he'll play his college football...

Bloomington – Will Columbus East’s potent pitch-and-catch combination be teaming up at IU as well?

Late last week, Columbus East wide receiver Duwyce Wilson added his name to the Hoosiers’ rapidly-expanding commitment list. With Wilson’s pledge in and the high school season rapidly approaching, many have suspected that Columbus East quarterback Dusty Kiel would follow suit and pledge to IU as well.

But Kiel remains uncommitted. He said two schools have separated themselves among those who have offered, but he’s not ready to make a decision just yet.

“It’s great that Duwyce committed, but that doesn’t really change much for me,” Kiel said. “IU and Central Michigan are probably still sitting at the top.”

The 6-3, 220-pounder continues to hear from Cincinnati and Purdue, and there are a handful of other MAC schools that have offered him as well. But barring a late development it’s likely going to be either a Hoosier or Chippewas uniform beginning in the fall of 2009.

Kiel said he’s been to both campuses on several occasions and believes both have plenty to offer.

“With Indiana, I really like Coach (Billy) Lynch and Coach (Matt) Canada,” Kiel said. “They’re both great coaches. IU’s academics are really good with their business program, and the facilities are also great. It’s also close to home, and that’s a plus.”

While IU’s proximity and membership in the Big Ten might seem to make it the clear cut favorite on paper, Kiel said there’s also plenty to like about Central Michigan.

“With Central, I love (quarterbacks) Coach (Mike) Bajakian and (Head) coach (Butch) Jones,” Kiel said. “The facilities are good, and they have won the MAC the last couple of years. The campus is really nice, and the people there seem genuine and seem like good people.”

Whichever program lands Kiel will be getting a good one. He completed 158-of-262 passes for 2,591 yards and 33 touchdowns last season, helping Columbus East to a 12-2 record. He’s a big, strong-armed quarterback who also has good athleticism, evidenced by the fact he started at safety when he was a sophomore and his older brother, Drew, was East’s starting quarterback.

While Kiel might be undecided on his college football future right now, he says he’ll sort things out very soon. Columbus East opens fall practice the first week of August and Kiel wants to have his decision made before camp gets underway.

“We have a really good team this year, and we’re going to compete for state this year,” Kiel said. “I think it’s the best team we’ve had here, and it would be nice to get (my decision) over with so I can focus on that.”
