Finch's Waiver Granted by NCAA

Bloomington – Jerimy Finch’s waiver to play football in 2008 has been granted by the NCAA, Indiana University announced Thursday.

The 6-1, 215-pound safety transferred to IU in the off-season after spending the 2007 campaign at Florida. In most instances transfers are required to sit out one full season before returning to Division I competition, but IU filed an appeal on Finch’s behalf, citing “extenuating personal circumstances.”

Those circumstances were deemed sufficient by the NCAA’s Subcommittee on Legislative Relief. The Indianapolis native and Warren Central H.S. graduate will have three years of eligibility remaining, and figures to be a big part of IU’s plans immediately.

Finch played as a true freshman at Florida, recording seven tackles and one interception in the season’s first three games before a broken leg ended his season. At IU, he’s expected to contribute at safety, where the Hoosiers return starters Nick Polk and Austin Thomas from a year ago.

Throughout fall camp Finch has been working primarily with the No. 3 unit while IU awaited word from the NCAA, but that figures to change beginning Thursday now that he’s eligible to play this fall.
