Bloomington – Sources have informed HoosierNation.com that
Indiana
University will introduce Indianapolis attorney Fred Glass as its new athletic director Tuesday morning.
Sources have confirmed that Glass will be officially introduced at a 10:15 a.m. press conference at the Devault Alumni Center Tuesday morning. Before the press conference, Glass will meet with IU’s head coaches at 8:45 a.m., followed by a 9:15 a.m. meeting with senior athletics staff.
Indiana University issued a press release Monday evening confirming the 10:15 a.m. press conference, although the details of the press conference weren’t revealed. Instead, the release said IU President Michael McRobbie would be making a “major announcement regarding the IU Department of Athletics.”
A partner at the prestigious Indianapolis law firm Baker & Daniels, Glass received his undergraduate and law degrees from Indiana University in 1981 and 1984, respectively.
While Glass has no experience in athletic administration at the collegiate level, he has had a hand in a handful of sports-related events in Indianapolis. He previously served as the president of the Capital Improvements Board under former Indianapolis mayor Bart Peterson and played a role in bringing the 2012 Super Bowl to Indianapolis. He also had a hand in helping the city of Indianapolis become a part of the regular rotation of cities that host the NCAA Final Four.
Glass practices corporate law at Baker and Daniels, the same firm where current
Notre Dame
Athletic Director Jack Swarbrick worked before he took over in South Bend in July.
Glass was one of several candidates that the 14-member Athletic Director search committee recommended to IU President Michael McRobbie recently. Glass was ultimately one of three finalists along with Oregon State Athletic Director Bob DeCarolis and current IU Associate Athletic Director Scott Dolson.
DeCarolis told the Oregonian Monday night that he was "out at IU. They're going in a different direction." Sources have told HoosierNation.com that Dolson was informed of the decision Monday night by Bill Stephan, who chaired the Athletic Director Search Committee.
