Jibreel Black, Cincinnati (Ohio) Wyoming – The Hoosiers' most high-profile recruit in years gets his senior season underway tonight at 7:30 p.m. against CHCA.
Cameron Cole, Cincinnati (Ohio) LaSalle – Cole's LaSalle H.S. team kicks off its season tonight against Oak Hills H.S. LaSalle is ranked No. 10 in the Division I preseason poll.
Jack Denton, Zionsville (Ind.) – Denton got Zionsville going early with an 18-yard touchdown reception and then added a 49-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to lead Zionsville (1-0) to a 41-0 win over Lafayette Jeff. Denton finished with five carries for 58 yards and the one reception for 18 yards. Denton's defensive stats were unavailable.
Cody Evers, Little Chute (Wis.) – Evers' team got its season underway in dominating fashion Thursday night, holding Berlin H.S. to three total yards in a 32-0 win. Little Chute ran for 229 yards on the ground while limiting its foes to -18 yards rushing.
Drew Hardin, Louisville (Ky.) Ballard – After opening its season with a 48-20 win over Pleasure Ridge Park H.S. last Friday, Ballard is back in action tonight against St. Xavier. St. Xavier is the top-ranked team in the state in Class 6A.
Marlandez Harris, Springfield (Ill.) Sacred Heart Griffin – This traditional Illinois high school powerhouse opens its season tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. against Montini Catholic.
LeNeil Hines, Plymouth (Ind.) – The ninth-ranked team in Class 4A was dominant on both sides of the ball on its way to a season-opening 48-6 win over Bremen last week. Offensively Plymouth piled up 351 of its 450 yards on the ground, and defensively it limited Bremen to 228 yards of total offense. Hines played on both sides of the ball, but his statistics were unavailable.
Kofi Hughes, Indianapolis (Ind.) Cathedral – In a match-up of two No. 1 teams in the state, Hughes' Class 4A No. 1 squad edged Class 5A No. 1 Carmel H.S. 7-3 in both teams' season opener last Friday. Hughes rushed 12 times for 63 yards in the win, and he added 44 yards passing on 5-of-9 throwing and also had one interception. Cathedral looks to make it two wins in a row over No. 1 5A teams tonight when it takes on Warren Central.
Bill Ivan, Charlevoix (Mich.) – Ivan's senior season gets underway tonight at 7 p.m. against St. Ignance H.S.
Shaquille Jefferson, Lexington (Ohio) – Jefferson gets his senior season – and Lexington H.S. career – underway tonight when Lexington goes on the road to face Mt. Vernon H.S. at 7:30 p.m. Jefferson played at Mansfield H.S. a year ago, totaling 33 tackles and one interception.
Tim O'Conner, Cincinnati (Ohio) Elder – The Division I state runners-up a year ago, Elder H.S. is ranked No. 2 in the Cincinnati Enquirer's preseason All-Area poll and opens its season Saturday against East St. Louis.
Matt Perez, Park Ridge (Ill.) Maine South – Perez's team kicks off its season tonight at 7 p.m. against Schaumburg H.S. Maine South is the defending Class 8A state champion and is ranked No. 2 in the preseason poll. Perez, meanwhile, is looking to follow up a huge junior season when he rushed for 1,147 yards and 22 touchdowns.
Ryan Phillis, Youngstown (Ohio) Boardman – Phillis' season kicks off tonight against Cardinal Mooney H.S.
Harrison Scott, New Albany (Ohio) – New Albany opens its season tonight at 7:30 p.m. with a home game against Westerville North H.S.
Ishmael Thomas, Detroit (Mich.) Renaissance – This outside linebacker prospect showed off his abilities at quarterback Thursday night, passing for 108 yards and three touchdowns in a 34-28, seven-overtime loss to Northwestern H.S. in both teams' season openers. The game was tied 14-14 at the end of regulation, and neither team scored in the first, second, third of sixth overtime periods. Thomas threw seven-yard touchdown pass in the fifth overtime period to tie it at 28-28 before Northwestern won it in the seventh OT period.
Xavier Whitaker, Brookfield (Wis.) Central – Whitaker opens his senior season tonight at Racine Case at 7 p.m.
Brian Williams , Suwannee (Ga.) Peachtree Ridge – Williams' squad opens its season tonight at Harrision H.S. at 7:30 p.m.
Logan Young, Muncie (Ind.) Delta – Young caught a 28-yard touchdown pass in the opening quarter and then added 9-yard score in the second quarter to help Delta to a 56-6 win over Jay County.
Matt Zakrzewski, Traverse City (Mich.) St. Francis – The defending Division 7 state champions open their season tonight against Benzie Central H.S.
