Bloomington – Maurice Creek underwent successful knee surgery today and is expected to make a full recovery according to IU Coach Tom Crean.
Creek injured his left knee earl y in the second half of Indiana's 90-42 win over Bryant Monday night. The injury was described as a fractured knee following the game, and IU didn't expand on the precise extent of the injury Tuesday. But in a prepared statement, Crean said today's procedure in Indianapolis went well.
"In visiting with Dr. Steve Ahlfeld, the surgery went very well and we expect a full recovery," Crean said. "His rehabilitation will start as soon as possible."
IU's leading scorer at 16.4 points/game, Creek is expected to miss the remainder of the season.
Creek's family wasn't at Monday night's game, but Crean said afterwards that arrangements were being made to get them to Indiana to be with their son for the surgery.
"After spending time with Maurice and his family tonight, it is clear they are very touched by all the support they have received from fans and friends across the country," Crean said.
Indiana plays its first game without Creek on Thursday when it hosts Michigan at Noon in both teams' Big Ten opener.
