According to a published report, former IU basketball commit Bud Mackey pleaded not guilty to cocaine charges Tuesday afternoon in his hometown of Georgetown, Ky.
The Lexington Herald Leader reported Mackey pleaded not guilty to a pair of felony charges that stemmed from his arrest at Scott County H.S. Sept. 28. Mackey is facing felony counts of trafficking a controlled substance as well as trafficking a controlled substance within 1,000 yards of a school.
Mackey was arrested Sept. 28 and was allegedly carrying 1.6 grams of crack cocaine in his shoe. His arrest report said Mackey told officials he was delivering the five pieces of “rock” cocaine to an unspecified person. The drug has an estimated street value of $150.
Mackey is out of jail on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to return to court Nov. 6.
Indiana has withdrawn its scholarship offer to Mackey, who verballed to the Hoosiers before the start of his junior season. He went on to lead Scott County H.S. to the state championship in the spring, scoring 20 of his 22 points in the second half of the title game.
Mackey was expected to be a frontrunner for Kentucky’s Mr. Basketball award this season, but that opportunity has disappeared. Mackey was suspended indefinitely from school following his arrest, and according to the Lexington Herald Leader, plans to withdraw from school.
