| He shows good straight line and closing speed. Once he finds the ball, he does not waste a lot of time or motion getting to the ball carrier. Is comfortable in space and shows the ability to play over the slot and drop into zones or even play man to man. Needs to play more under control. | Joe Gilliam finished his junior season with 90 tackles, five sacks and three fumbles caused. He says he can bench 280-pounds and claims a 35-inch vertical jump.
Gilliam plans on majoring in business management and reports a 3.3 core GPA and a 21 ACT.
Gilliam: “I have great athletic ability and I’m very aware of what’s going on the field. I study a lot of film and like to learn about the game.
“I’m also great at pass coverage, but am working on improving my strength. I want to get through the blockers easier and be more physical.”
