Arizona near the top for Trier

Allonzo Trier

Arizona offered 2015 shooting guard Allonzo Trier on Friday night. Read on to find out how the Wildcats are doing with the prospect, what he likes about the Wildcats, and more.

Arizona head coach Sean Miller was busy on Friday night, as he spoke on the phone with one of the top shooting guards in the country and formally extended a scholarship offer.

2015 Rockville (MD) Montrose Christian shooting guard Allonzo Trier is one of the top scorers in the country and was excited by his offer from the Wildcats.

"It went great with Coach Miller," Trier said. "I just got off the phone with him and he explained everything to me, like where they want to use me and how I would fit in. At the end he told me that he really wants me to join the program."

Trier has offers from plenty of schools, including Baylor, Georgetown, Indiana, and Louisville, but has Arizona near the top of his list after the the offer.

"They are definitely at the top right now," He said. "There are some other schools up there with them, but with the success that they have had over the last few years and what they are building there, and the type of coach Sean Miller is, they are definitely up there."

The scholarship offer had been in the works for a while, as the recruitment has been going on for some time now.

"We have been in contact for a while," Trier said. "This wasn't an out-of-the-blue thing. We've been keeping in touch a lot and things like that for a while now."

In addition to Miller, the guard has been recruited by one of the relentless Wildcat recruiters, assistant coach Joe Pasternack.

"I talk to Coach Pasternack from Arizona too," Trier said. "I talk to him a ton. He talks to me about everyday things. He texts me and tells me how excited they are to be recruiting me and that he hopes I join the program. He just talks to me about becoming a Wildcat."

The Wildcats already have two guards committed for 2015, Tyler Dorsey and Justin Simon, but Trier says that it is something he has already discussed with the coaches.

"We have already talked about that," he said. "The coaches think that I would be a great fit to come in right away with the things I do. They said that I might be a great replacement piece for someone like Nick Johnson with the things he does."

Arizona has done a diligent job recruiting Trier, who says he fits into the Wildcats' plans perfectly.

"Their style of play stands out the most," Trier said. "Everything that fits me there is great. That is why they have been on me a lot.

"They have been trying to get me because I fit in so well there. They tell me that I fit everything that they are trying to do and that I can make the program great."

Trier does not have any visits planned, but would like to visit Arizona and a few other schools this summer if the schedules allow him to do so.

"We have talked about a visit, but we haven't settled on a date yet," he said. "I don't have any other visits planned either. I am in the process of planning all of those and getting them squared away."

Although the Wildcats have had constant communication with the guard, so has all of the other schools that are recruiting him.

"Everyone is really recruiting me hard," Trier said. "I am everyone's top priority and I hear from each school on a daily basis."

While he does not have a timeline for a decision, the shooting guard plans on focusing in on some top schools shortly.

"I don't have a timeline for when I plan on committing yet," Trier said. "I want to focus on narrowing down my list and getting my visits set here pretty soon and that's just the next step."
